Congratulations to our MoneyStrands 2018 FinTech Scholarship winner, Jasmine Hidalgo of Colorado State University!
Last year, we announced our first-ever MoneyStrands FinTech Scholarship. We asked applicants to answer one of these three questions:
- Is your relationship with your bank more of a Tinder fling or a long-term commitment?
- What is the toughest financial difficulty of being a student and how do you plan on managing it?
- What is your dream purchase? How are you planning to budget and save up for it?
We received so many awesome submissions, and we truly wish we could reward them all. However, after our team reviewed and voted on the entries, we chose our winner: Jasmine Hidalgo of Colorado State University! Here’s what she had to say when asked: Is your relationship with your bank more of a Tinder fling or a long-term commitment?
We recently checked in with Jasmine to know more about her and how she plans to manage her finances.
What course are you enrolled in?
I’m studying to become an Interior Architech. I like that I’m able to learn the entirety of the design process, from the assessment of client needs through design programming, to development of design solutions and conceptual and theoretical frameworks.
What is the biggest obstacle to pursuing your career as an Interior Architect? How do you plan to overcome it?
My largest challenge is my finances. On the one hand, I know I need to make and save more money. And on the other side, getting to manage it properly is paramount.
I plan to overcome it by being very intentional with my money and taking real action: from applying to scholarships like MoneyStrands 2018 FinTech Scholarship to budgeting and planning, there are actionable ways to better manage my financial life.
How will this scholarship help you?
This scholarship will let me focus on my studies and school instead of worrying all the time about paying for my tuition.
This scholarship comes in an amazing time because my brothers are also studying at the moment so it relieves the financial burden of my family. I want to thank MoneyStrands FinTech Scholarship for this honor. Thank you!
What’s some personal advice for other students facing similar challenges?
I’d tell them: “When there’s a will, there’s a way.”
It may sound cheesy but it’s absolutely true. It’s a quote I live by because I believe that if you really want something, there’s nothing stopping you to get it if you’re determined.
We wish you all the best in your future endeavors, Jasmine. The future looks very bright for you!
